System Time Help

Overview

The System Time screen lets you configure the time settings for the Polycom® Distributed Media Application™ (DMA™) 7000 system. Proper time settings not only affect the logs, backups, and other viewable records, but also help ensure proper functioning of your system.

System Time Zone

Select the time zone in which the Polycom DMA system is located. The list is organized by location and includes most geo-political regions. We strongly recommend selecting the time zone of a specific geographic location, not a generic GMT offset. The generic GMT offset entries do not automatically adjust for location-specific time settings such as daylight saving time.

If you do want to use a generic GMT offset, note that they use the Posix convention of specifying how many hours ahead of or behind local time GMT is. Thus, the generic equivalent of America/Denver (UTC-07:00) is GMT+07, not GMT-7.

Auto Adjust for Daylight Saving Time

Leave this checked so that the system stores specific time zone rules by location. If this is not checked, the system will use a generic GMT offset. We strongly recommend against using a generic GMT offset.

NTP Servers

Specify up to three NTP (Network Time Protocol) servers for maintaining system time. Enter IP addresses or, if DNS servers are specified, names (hostnames or fully qualified domain names). We strongly recommend specifying at least one NTP server, and preferably all three, to ensure proper operation of your Polycom DMA system. They should be Stratum 3 or better in quality wherever possible.
