Overview

The Polycom® Distributed Media Application™ (DMA®) 7000 USB Configuration Utility lets you set up a USB flash memory stick to perform either of two functions:

Operating Modes

The USB Configuration Utility may be in one of three modes:

System Parameters Mode

This mode allows you to initially configure or reconfigure a Polycom DMA system. Completing the Configure the System Parameters process automatically puts the USB stick into this mode. The parameters include IP addresses, host names, DNS servers, time settings, and security settings.

In this mode, when the USB stick is inserted into a node of the Polycom DMA system and the node is restarted, the configuration parameters are applied to the system (both nodes).

Restore Mode

This mode allows you to restore a Polycom DMA system from one of its backup files (see the online help or Polycom DMA System Operations Guide for details on creating and downloading backup files). Copying a valid backup file to the USB stick automatically puts the USB stick into this mode.

In this mode, when the USB stick is inserted into a node of the Polycom DMA system and the node is restarted, the data in the backup file (configuration parameters, local user data, and audit records) are restored to the system (both nodes).

Note: Restoring a backup overwrites all configuration parameters and data created since the time the backup file was created.

Operation

Click Configure the System Parameters to step through the Network, System Time, and Security Configuration screens and enter the system parameters. If the USB stick already contains a configuration file, these screens display the system parameters in that file.

Completing the configuration steps (creating or updating the configuration file on the USB stick) also configures the USB stick to apply those parameters to the system. To save a configuration file, you must at least complete the required network fields (marked with a *).

Click Copy a Backup to the USB Stick to select a Polycom DMA system backup file to be copied to the USB stick and checked. If it is a valid backup, then the USB stick is configured to load this backup onto the system.

Switch to System Parameters Mode is only an available action if the USB stick contains a valid configuration file, but is currently not setup or in Restore Mode.

Switch to Restore Mode is only available if the USB stick contains a valid backup file, but is currently in System Parameters Mode.
